Man Bakes in the African Sun:HE WANTS TO BE HOTTEST MAN ON EARTH

By JIM GRAND

ZUMBI, Kenya — “I have never done anything important, so this is my chance!”

So said Leo Lyon, an expatriate Englishman who, having failed as a plant safari guide, impala rancher and melon farmer, has determined to make a name for himself by setting a world’s record for highest body temperature.

“I sit in the veldt from noon to three, the hottest time of day, drinking tea,” said the leathery forty-year-old. “I am slowly raising my average body temperature by degrees. After two weeks it is already 106.6 — up eight degrees.”

His goal, he told Weekly World News, is a record 112.

“I don’t recommend this to others,” said his personal physician, Dr. Albert Shvitzer. “There is a good chance his head will pop before he reaches his goal.”

“It’s worth the risk,” said the perspiring Lyon through a cloud of circling flies. “When I am done, I will be quite the celebrity. I can join the circus as a human thermometer.

“It may not seem like much of a goal, but my mum will be proud,” he added. “She always wanted me to earn a degree or two.”
